BBC News Telugu and ETV Andhra Pradesh reported that Thota Chandraiah, a TDP worker/leader from Gundlapadu in the Veldurthi/Macherla area, was attacked while travelling on a two-wheeler and killed with knives, sticks, or stones.
Funeral becomes a political flashpoint
News18 Telugu's archived video description places N. Chandrababu Naidu at Chandraiah's house and funeral procession; India Today reported that the murder took a political turn after Naidu participated in the funeral.
Police report eight arrests
Multiple January 14 reports record Guntur Rural Police arresting eight accused within 24 hours; India Today says the main accused was YSRCP member Chinta Sivaramaiah, while The News Minute records the same arrest count and accused list.
SP account: cement-road dispute, no political angle

Daily Pioneer, Deccan Chronicle, and Hans India later reported government or ministerial statements that a job would be provided to Chandraiah's son or family member as part of a policy/bill for families affected by political or faction violence.
Political-motive allegation remains attributed
Later government and political statements alleged Chandraiah was killed for refusing to give up TDP allegiance or for raising TDP/Chandrababu slogans; those claims conflict with the initial police motive account and are treated here as attributed allegations until a court or final CID record is archived.
